Sideboard boy
Back to childhood. It’s the mid 80s and the arrival of a second hand sideboard which is being carried in by my Dad and uncle. Who is the little boy sat on top as they put it in place? He is holding a golden fish and looking at me. I’ve asked him if he’d like to play. I am only 4 and small also, although I must look pretty large to him. He tells me he isn’t from around here and his fish is to bring us luck. Only me and my Dad can see him and after some time together, he was simply gone. No one knows who he was or where he came from but I needed a friend and somehow for a short time, I was granted a very special one. This is a treasured memory.. .and possibly a dad who just went along with it to make his daughter smile. Dad passed away in 2022. They both live on in me now.
